Jim Riggs Memorial tournament set
The date for the Jim Riggs Memorial Champions has been set.
The 33rd annual golf tournament, featuring the club champions from the regulation 18- and nine-hole courses in the circulation areas of The Post-Journal, the OBSERVER and the Times Observer, will be held June 18 at Chautauqua Golf Club, according to tournament director Nolan Swanson. Tee times start at 10:30 a.m.
Swanson noted that he is looking for the names and contact information of the club champions from each of those courses. That information should be emailed to him at nolanswanson7@gmail.com.
Last year’s champion was Josh Harrington, who made an 8-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole at Chautauqua GC. Playing out of Shorewood Country Club, Harrington outlasted two-time Riggs champion Scott Crist and Swanson, who settled for pars.
For Harrington, the championship bowl he received after the round was his third, matching the ones he captured after winning the 2013 and 2014 titles. The list of golfers who have had at least three crowns is decidedly small. The only other names on that list are Dick Cole (1996, 1997, 2002 and 2003) and Shelly Grant (1992, 1993 and 2001).
