Eagles down Rocky Grove; Saegertown next

ROCKY GROVE — The stage is set.

Youngsville overcame an early lack of focus, powering past Rocky Grove for a 10-3 victory, setting up a Region 2 showdown with the Saegertown Panthers on Wednesday at Davis Street Field in Youngsville.

The Panthers sit just ahead of the Eagles in the region standings and a win Wednesday would have Youngsville (11-2) and the Panthers tied in the loss column in the race for the region title.

“We found a way to pull it out tonight,” said Youngsville coach Eddie Dorunda. “Our focus and effort was not there for the first four innings. We loaded up the bases in the second inning with no outs and a line drive back to the pitcher turned into a triple play. We have to be smarter on the base paths.”

On Monday, Youngsville trailed 3-2 after five innings before jumping ahead with a six-spot in the sixth inning. The offensive outburst was highlighted by a three-run bomb from starting pitcher Matt DeSimone.

“On the mound, he (DeSimone) pitched well enough to earn the win. He was a little wild to start the game but settled in fine,” said Dorunda. “His three-run bomb in the sixth was huge. Our 7-8-9 guys in the order also combined for eight hits tonight. We can’t ask for much more than that.”

Wyatt Dalrymple ended the day 3 for 4 for the Eagles and DeSimone, Ian Mancuso and Ethan Senz all added two hits of their own. DeSimone drove in three with his homer and Senz also brought home three runs.

The Wednesday showdown between the Eagles and Panthers is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
