Lady Dragons stay hot

Warren girls down Meadville for seventh straight win

MEADVILLE — Warren’s girls basketball team had another nice start with a 17-4 first quarter on its way to its seventh straight win, 60-33 on Thursday over Meadville at Meadville Area Senior High.

“I was very, very happy with our start,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan, whose Dragons are 14-6 overall and 8-0 and in first place in Region 5. Meadville is 1-7 in the region.

Alyssa Farr had 8 points in a 33-15 first half for Warren, but LaVan said the Lady Dragons took their foot off the gas and that can’t happen with the playoffs on the horizon.

“We came out strong on defense and offense,” she said. “Then we just faded away. We can’t pick and choose when we play hard. Mentally, we just weren’t there tonight. Winning is not enough at this phase of the season.”

Led by Alana Stuart’s 12 points, 10 Dragons scored in the win.

Earlier on Thursday, Emily Foster scored 14 points in the Warren junior varsity team’s 43-17 victory.
