Warren’s young girls basketball team showed its resilience on Saturday with a 62-50 win over DuBois Central Catholic less than 24 hours after a close loss to Erie High.
“They have a short-term memory,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan of a defending District 10 championship team with just one senior on its roster. “It’s a blessing and a curse. I’ve never had a team that trusts each other as much as they do and likes each other as much as they do, and that says a lot in my 15 years as head coach. This team is very tight-knit, so my heart breaks for them (when they get frustrated) as they’re trying their hardest. It’s not lack of effort; it’s just the mental side of it their trying to understand.”
On Saturday, with a rare home game at Sheffield High School, that short-term memory could have helped after a 20-15 DCC first quarter. Warren proceeded to outscored DuBois 22-11 in the second and 14-6 in the third for a 51-37 lead.
Sophomore Alyssa Farr connected on two 3-pointers and had eight points in the big second quarter. She finished with 12 points for Warren (3-4).
Warren hit nine 3-pointers in the game — three for Farr, two more from Peyton Wotorson, and one each by Sammie Ruhlman, Alana Stuart, Meea Irwin and Gracie Ruhlman.

Halle Kuzminski added 12 points for Warren, Stuart 10, Sammie Ruhlman eight, Wotorson seven and Irwin six.
Faith Jacob led DCC (2-3) with 20 points.
In a 45-30 junior varsity win earlier on Saturday, Emily Foster led Warren with 17 points and Irwin added 15.
