Eisenhower recognizes senior runners

RUSSELL — In their last home meet of the season, the Eisenhower Knights honored their seniors Wednesday in a race against Warren.

The varsity boys race was won by Joe Mistretta as he crossed the finish line first for the Knights with a time of 20:30. The top Dragons finisher for the boys was Louis Flatt, who finished in second place with a time of 21:13.

There was no team score for the varsity boys race.

In the varsity girls race, it was the Knights’ Kierra Wismar winning her first varsity race with a time of 23:25. Madison Cathcart Roos finished in second place with a time of 25:34. The top girls finisher for the Dragons was Kasey Kophazy, who finished in third place with a time of 26:22.

The Eisenhower girls won 15-40.

In the junior high portion, it was a split as the Knights won the team matchup 15-50, but the Dragons’ Emma Peterson won the race with a time of 11:35. The top Knights runner was Bryn Lindell in second place with a time of 12:30.

The Dragons boys won their match with a score of 25-30. The Knights’ Austin Fitzgerald took first place with a time of 10:48. The top Dragons runner was Leyton Salvatore with a time of 11:04.

“We rested some kids today to give them a break and prepare for the rest of the season,” Warren coach Kevin Dustin said. “Louis Flatt and Kasey Kophazy led the way for our varsity runners and Leyton Salvatore and Emma Peterson had impressive runs for our junior high.”

“At our last home meet of the season, we honored our seniors Brooke Andersen, Madison Cathcart, Kendra Chase and Alexis Christensen,” Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach said. “Even with the muddy conditions, many of our kids ran season-best times or personal-best times on the course.”

The Knights next travel to Rochester, N.Y., to compete in the McQuaid Invitational on Saturday.
