Warren’s boys soccer team advanced a 1-0 halftime lead to an 8-0 Region 4 win over Eisenhower on Thursday at Eisenhower High School.
Sophomore Gavin Rex scored first for Warren and added two more goals and an assist in a 7-0 second half.
“Coach (Denny) Flatt made some nice adjustments at halftime and we came out really moving the ball nicely and winning all 50/50 balls,” said Warren assistant coach Chris Darling.
Parks Ordiway scored his second goal of the second half to up the lead to 5-0, but left after a collision on the play.
Jack Darling, Jack Chapman and Finn Ordiway also scored second-half goals for Warren, which is 5-1 in the region. Eisenhower is 2-4 in Region 4.
“Always enjoy playing against the Eisenhower squad,” said Flatt. “We play as teammates during travel with a bunch of the boys and we developed some nice friendships. The boys respond well to each other and it’s always a good, competitive match.”
Parks Ordiway, Finn Ordiway and Chapman also had assists for Warren, and Will Nebinski was the shutout goalie. Eisenhower’s Case Seymour made several outstanding saves in the 1-0 first half.
“I thought, once the defense settled in, we played them well,” said Coach Darling. “The midfield took a lot of the balls out of the air, and we found a lot of seams to slide the ball through even with a nice keeper.”
