SHEFFIELD — Sheffield’s hopes of bouncing back after their Week 1 loss to Bucktail were dashed early Saturday afternoon, as the Otto-Eldred Terrors put up 42 points in the first quarter, inevitably defeating Sheffield 54-6 on Wolverine Mountain.
“Not the way we practiced this week,” said Sheffield Head Coach Mike Barr. “That’s not the way we practiced. I don’t know. We did change our practice up. I don’t know, they were not ready. All week long we worked through everything. Then today, I don’t know if it’s the nerves of the lights so to speak. I’ve chalked it up to them being young. Three seniors, three juniors, the rest are sophomores and freshmen, but at some point, the sophomores and freshmen need to step up.”
In just four plays and 61 seconds, the Terrors put their first points on the board with a Hunter App 25-yard touchdown. Under a minute later, Otto-Eldred’s Manning Splain would pick off Sheffield quarterback Colby Barr at the Wolverines own 28-yard line, taking the interception to the house to go up by 14. Splain would strike again following a quick series by Sheffield that forced the Wolverines to punt. Splain caught the ball at the Sheffield 45 and dodged the coverage all the way to the endzone. Midway through the first quarter, the Terrors already held a 21-0 lead, while only running four offensive plays. Splain would tally his third score of the day just before the end of the first, hauling in a pass from Andrew Schenfield to go 26-yards, giving the Terrors a 42-0 lead.
The Wolverines were able to hold Otto-Eldred scoreless through two quarters, before Rey’shene Thomas would take a Schenfield pass 30 yards for his second touchdown of the day. Under a minute later, Shane Magee connected with David Schenfield for a 45-yard touchdown and the Terrors’ final score.
Sheffield’s Jeremiah Richardson obtained the only score for the hosting team Saturday after a 68-yard kick return set up the Wolverines at the seven yard-line. On fourth and goal, Richardson would pound the ball in for the four-yard score to eliminate the shutout.

“We got to revitalize that energy. We’re going to give Monday off. Spend it with family. We’re big with family. I told them, I put the challenge out to them right there, Tuesday night when you come, you got to, either maintain this or we got to ratchet it up a notch.”
Sheffield will be on a bye week, before traveling to Elk County Catholic the following Friday night.
