Senior Day ended pretty well for Warren’s baseball team on Friday with a 13-3 non-region win over Sharpsville at Old Legion Field.

Warren’s two seniors, Paul Smith and JT Blum, batted first and second, respectively, on a day when Warren (4-13) put together 12 hits to snap its 10-game losing streak.

“Happy for the boys,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison. “We’ve been building towards this for a couple weeks and it was good to see it all come together today. Sharpsville (15-4) is a quality team, but we finally put together a complete game and it showed.”

The Dragons scored four runs in each of the second and third innings, then won via the 10-run rule after five innings.

Eric Dippold pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and six walks while striking out four. He allowed three earned runs.

Anthony Errett’s misplayed fly ball scored Ben Sowa in the bottom of the fifth for the 10-run rule.

“The bottom of our order was great today,” said Morrison. “Konnor (Hoffman), obviously, had a heck of a game. It was fun to see him break out like that. He’s got a ton of ability and continues to improve as a sophomore.”

Hoffman finished 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and five RBIs.

“Archie (Teconchuk) continues to put together consistent quality ABs and put a great swing on his double,” said Morrison. Teconchuk added four RBIs.

“Brady (Berdine) has been hitting the ball hard recently and it was good to see the results follow for him today (with two hits and two RBIs). Dip (Eric Dippold) really mixed it up well. … They are a very good offensive team and he kept them off-balance. His best two games of the year have been against McDowell and Sharpsville, impressive for someone his age.”

JT Blum had two more hits; he’s hitting .418 on the season and 12 for 12 in stolen base attempts.

“I can’t say enough about what JT and Paul mean to the program and me personally,” said Morrison of his two seniors. “It hasn’t been an easy year, but I’ve never once had to worry about the effort or dedication of either. JT is basically another coach on the field and, in my opinion, one of the most valuable position players in D10. He’s played five positions for us and has never complained once about anything I’ve asked him to do. Paul has been dealt a crap hand personally the last few months and has handled it better than anyone could ever expect of an 18-year-old. I’m truly thankful for both of them and will miss them after we are done Monday.”
