10 Dragons advance to second day of Tool City tourney

MEADVILLE — Ten Dragons have advanced to the second day of the 42nd annual Tool City Wrestling Tournament at Meadville Area Senior High School.

Adika Fiscus and Christian Papalia have advanced to Saturday’s winners’ bracket semifinals.

Fiscus is 2-0 at 106 pounds with a 6-5 decision over Meadville’s Ben Fuller and a pin in his second match on Friday. Fiscus’ first varsity win came against Fuller, who defeated Fiscus 10-4 in Warren’s dual with Meadville.

At 113 pounds, Papalia pinned Dakota Newell from Cambridge Springs in 47 seconds to advance to the semifinals.

After a loss, Cameron Williams beat Grove City’s Carl Bubenheim 6-2 at 120 pounds to advance. It was also Williams’ first varsity win.

In a common theme, Jack Napolitan also earned his first varsity win for Warren. After getting pinned, he pinned Grove City’s Jordan Medve at 2:25 to advance at 126 pounds.

After getting pinned in his first match at 132 pounds, Mike Swanson earned his first varsity win, 8-2 over Grove City’s Hunter McElroy.

At 145 pounds, Grant Heeter won his first match by fall, dropped his second by fall, and won both his third and fourth by falls.

Damien Sanchez lost a close 5-4 decision at 160 pounds to drop to the wrestle backs, but earned a pin in his second match, and won his third match in triple overtime, 10-9 over Drake Applequist from Union City.

Tristan Dolan won by fall in his first match at 215 pounds, and lost by fall in the second, but is still alive.

Cole Johnson (120 pounds) and Connor Hecei (189 pounds) are each 0-1 and wrestle again in the morning.

“The kids are seeing what hard work will bring,” said Warren coach Ted Carrington. “Really proud of our younger kids.”
