Eisenhower records walk-off 9-8 victory vs. Maplewood

RUSSELL — Zane Alexander beat a throw to the plate on Jared Beers’ infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning as Eisenhower walked off with a 9-8 Region 3 baseball victory over Maplewood on Monday.

Maplewood (4-8, 4-8) rallied from a 8-3 hole to tie the game with a five-run top of the sixth inning.

The Tigers led 3-1 after the third inning, but the Knights (8-4, 8-4) got one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning and then erupted for six runs in the fifth inning to take the five-run lead.

Seven Eisenhower hitters combined for 11 hits, all of which were singles. Beers, Owen Trumbull and Teagan Gray each had two hits and two RBIs while Cole Chapman also had two hits. Dillon Benson and Camron Jakubczak each had a single and an RBI.

Chapman threw the first 2 1/3 innings, striking out three while allowing three hits and three runs (one earned). Kael Hunt relieved and struck out four over the final 4 2/3 innings while allowing three hits and five runs.

Eisenhower will host Cochranton on Wednesday and Youngsville on Friday before visiting Rocky Grove on Saturday morning.

YOUNGSVILLE EDGES UNION CITY

YOUNGSVILLE –Youngsville secured a 9-8 win over visiting Union City in Region 3 action Monday.

The Eagles pulled away for good with six runs in the third inning.

Matt DeSimone doubled on the first pitch of his at-bat, driving in two runs, and another run went home on a stolen base with Nathan Lucks at the plate.

Lucks struck a single, Derek Lucks singled on a 3-2 count to score another run, and two more runs came in on walks by Damon Reese and Jason Beers.

Keegan Mesel, Beers and Derek Lucks had two hits apiece as the Eagles finished with 11 total.

Alex Kemery pitched his way through 5 1/3 innings with 11 strikeouts while allowing three walks and eight hits.

Beers picked up two outs and Derek Lucks pitched the final inning in relief.

Damon Reese tracked down three key fly balls in left field for the Eagles, including a game-saving catch in the top of the sixth.

Union City finished with 12 hits in the game.
