DUBOIS — Kelsey Stuart threw a two-hitter and Warren scored six runs in the first inning in an 11-0 softball win at DuBois on Saturday.
“Kelsey pitched a great game,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart, whose Dragons are 7-1 and have won seven straight. “She was hitting spots and inducing a lot of strikeouts. I can’t say enough about our defense either, another error-free game. Our bats were on fire and add on two perfect squeeze plays. It was an excellent day.”
Leadoff hitter Katie Madigan had two singles in the first inning, and Alix Lytle, Alex Neureiter, Ellee Irwin and Halle Kuzminski had hits in the six-run inning.
Madigan and Ellee Irwin had three hits each for Warren, and Kelsey Stuart, and Lytle, Neureiter and Kuzminski two apiece in the 16-hit attack.
Stuart struck out eight in the five-inning mercy-rule win.
Kuzminski was 3-for-3 and reached five times in a 10-8 junior varsity loss.

DRAGONS FALL
Sometimes things don’t play out exactly how you want them to. That’s what happened to Warren’s pitching in an 18-3 Region 5 loss to Cathedral Prep on Saturday.
“We wanted to get some depth out of our pitching with all the games we’ve got coming up,” said Warren coach Rick Eaton, whose Dragons are 6-2 and 4-2 in the region. “When you’ve got five games in eight days and you only get two or three (innings) out of your starter, you’re going to get kids opportunities that don’t normally get them. Hopefully, at the end of the day, it’s a positive out of a negative.”
Against Cathedral Prep (6-1 in region), that’s a tough get.
Allowing seven hits, Warren pitchers also walked eight and hit eight Prep batters.
“That’s 18 runs,” said Eaton.
The Ramblers got to Warren starting pitcher Ethan Wilson for 11 runs in two innings. Wilson allowed just four hits, but had trouble finding the strike zone. He wasn’t alone. Archie Teconchuk and Carson Farr took one for the team in a tough day on the hill.
Two walks and two hit batters started the game and, before you knew it, Prep was up by five in the top of the first. The Ramblers added four in the second, two in the third, and seven in the fourth to win by the mercy rule.
No Prep batter had multiple hits. Micah Passmore was 2-for-2 for Warren, and Owen Blum had two of the Dragons’ three RBIs. Ben Berdine had Warren’s only other base hit.
“It didn’t work out, pitching-wise,” said Eaton. “I knew we could run into problems if we didn’t have guys go a lot of innings, and it just happened that this was the day it happened. If you get an opportunity, take advantage of it, and that’s all we can do. File it, remember it, but put it away.”
Anthony Errett and Paul Smith had two hits each in a 12-2 junior varsity loss, following Saturday’s varsity game.
Warren is at McDowell today with the junior varsity first, followed by varsity under the lights.
