Former Sheffield coach, athlete inducted into Virginia Hall

Dr. Tim Hoden, former Sheffield Area High School wrestler, football player, and coach was inducted into the Virginia Wrestling Hall of Fame this month for his work as a referee and the wrestling official’s commissioner for Virginia.
Dr. Hoden was employed in the Warren County School District at Sheffield High School as a substitute teacher and coach in the mid-1980s before moving to Virginia for a full-time teaching position in the Lynchburg City schools.
Dr. Hoden earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania where he played college football on the Golden Eagles football team. He completed a master’s degree in leadership and Doctor of Education in Leadership from Lynchburg College (with a dissertation on concussions in high school athletics). He began his teaching career in Virginia at the Lynchburg City Schools. He taught science and coached football/wrestling at E. C. Glass High School and later served as an administrator at the school before moving on to Amherst County High School.
Upon completing the “Aspiring Superintendents” program through Virginia Tech University, he matriculated to the Campbell County Public Schools as Director of Operations, becoming named the Chief Operations Officer in 2022. Recently, he was named Acting Interim Superintendent.
Dr. Hoden has two adult children — Parker and Abbey — and resides in Monroe with his wife, Amanda.
Responding to being named Interim Superintendent of the Amherst County Public Schools, Hoden said: “I just want to make sure that the transition is smooth, and again, I really want folks to understand that my mission and vision haven’t changed, right? Every child, every day.”
