Sheffield falls in volleyball playoffs

Elk County Catholic was a 25-16, 25-19, 25-15 winner over Sheffield in playoff volleyball action on Tuesday.

Kadence Steffan finished with 15 assists; Kassidy Orinko had seven kills and 12 digs; Lynzie Grubbs added six kills and five blocks; Annabel Sheldon had 18 digs; and Emily Leichtenberger chipped in13 digs.

“We got off to a slow start, and in past games when that happened, we were able pick up our tempo and put it all together,” head coach Melissa Lemay said. “Tonight that wasn’t the case, and when you are playing in the playoffs, that won’t end in your favor. ECC is always a solid team. I’m not sure that they were the better team tonight, but they definitely played better than us.” Playing through an unprecedented season, Sheffield looks to the future with high expectations.

“I want to thank the girls, their parents, our faithful fans, Savanna Cochran, my assistant coach, and our athletic director, Corey Copley,” Lemay said. “Without the support of all of them, and Mr. Copley’s hard work to get our schedule full in this crazy COVID season, none of this would have been possible.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
