Sheffield beats Dubois Central Catholic in four games

SHEFFIELD — Sheffield bounced back from Thursday’s loss to defeat Dubois Central Catholic 24-26, 25-12, 25-12, 25-23, on Friday night at home.

“We have been playing pretty consistent volleyball lately, but that didn’t hold true today,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “As loose and fun as they played last night, they played tight and seemed like they were playing to not make mistakes at times.”

Despite the win, Lemay acknowledged the mental mistakes with the Wolverines having number of unforced errors at the service line (12) and attacking (24).

“We need to fix that,” said Lemay. “Mental mistakes continue to plague us at times, and we need to be able to forget our mistakes and move on to the next ball.”

Emily Leichtenberger did however play consistent Friday night and paced Sheffield with 11 kills, 15 digs, and nine aces. Kassidy Orinko had 14 kills, 15 digs, and three blocks. Lynzie Grubbs had 12 kills and six blocks. Kadence Steffan added 39 assists.

The Wolverines have two more regular season matches before the start of playoffs with their next match up against Brockway on Monday at home.

Junior varsity lost in two 15-25, 23-25. Emily Foster and Hannah Grinnell had five kills. Kadence Steffan had 10 digs and nine assists.
