Meadville’s Foster, Vincent’s Morris garner all-state honors

A pair of District 10 public school players who led their teams to state championship game appearances were honored with first-team all-state selections.

Meadville’s Armoni Foster and Strong Vincent’s David Morris, dynamic senior guards who led their teams on magical postseason runs, were both selected in Class 5A and 4A respectively.

Foster, a 6-2 senior guard whose Bulldogs knocked off Warren early in the season, averaged 26.2 ppg as Meadville advanced to Hershey where they fell to Archbishop Wood. He is undecided on a college destination for next season.

Morris, a Tennessee State commit who led his team to a pair of wins over the Dragons during the regular season, averaged 23.5 ppg. in leading the Colonels to the 4A final where they fell to charter school power Imhotep.

Also in Class 4A, Clearfield senior forward Will Myers was named second team after averaging 17.1 ppg. and leading the Bison to a District 9 championship.

In Class 3A, Greenville’s Joe Batt, who led his team to a District 10 championship and a first round PIAA win over Seton LaSalle was named second team, averaging 19.8 ppg.

In Class 2A, District 10 champion Wilimington was represented by Spencer DeMedal. The senior averaged 20.7 ppg. and was instrumental in the Greyhounds run to the D-10 crown, as well as a first round state playoff win over Chartiers Houston. He will continue his athletic career on the gridiron for Duquesne.

Also honored on the 2A second team was Dan Callen of Clarion-Limestone. The 6-7 senior averaged 18.9 ppg. for the Lions, whose assistant coach, Scott Fox, is a 2005 Youngsville graduate.

Named to the third team in Class 2A was Coudersport’s Jared Green. The junior averaged 16.8 ppg. in leading the Falcons to an unbeaten regular season, a District 9 title and a first round PIAA playoff win over United.

In 1A, state champion Kennedy Catholic was well-represented, with Maceo Austin (19.2 ppg.) and Drew Magestro (20.0 ppg.) being named to the third team and Mo Konate (10.1 ppg.) and Marcin Wiszomirsky (13.0 ppg.) third team selections. Magestro, a senior, will be play for Pitt-Johnstown next season. Austin, just a sophomore, is already being courted by multiple Division I schools, with West Virginia considered the early favorite.

Also honored in Class 1A was Elk County Catholic’s Nate DaCanal. The senior, who averaged 15.3 ppg., led the Crusaders to back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons and District 9 championships. ECC knocked off Eden and Williamsburg before falling to Kennedy in the PIAA quarterfinals.

Lonnie Walker of 6A champ Reading, was named Player of the Year in the largest Pennsylvania classification. A McDonald’s All-American, Walker will play at Miami (Fl.) next season.

Archbishop Wood senior guard Collin Gillespie was selected 5A Player of the Year and will play for Villanova next season.

Imhotep guard Daron Russell was named 4A POY and will suit up for Rhode Island in 2017-18.

McDonald’s All-American Quade Green of Neumann-Goretti garnered top honors in 3A and will play for Kentucky next season.

Tamir Green of Constitution earned 2A Player of the Year, while Kevin Anderson of St. John Neumann, a Delaware pledge, was POY in 1A.
