Squaring off against a local opponent for the second time in as many nights, the Youngsville Eagles rolled to a convincing 48-16 win over Warren County Christian in a non-region game Tuesday at Youngsville High School.

The Eagles are now 6-9 overall after Tuesday’s win and Monday’s 64-5 romp over Tidioute Charter. They’ll look to build on their 1-7 record in Region 3 when they visit Saegertown on Friday.

“We’re working a lot on being more deliberate in the offensive end,” said Youngsville coach Jim Kesterholt. “I thought we did a good job moving the ball tonight, even though we started out a little bit slow – I wasn’t real happy about that. For the second night in a row we were kind of lackadaisical. We need to refocus these next two nights for when we get back into league games.”

The Eagles’ ball movement was on full display early as they were able to open up a number of good looks at the basket. Travis McLaughlin and Joey Chuzie combined to score 15 points in the first quarter while Youngsville held the Lions to just one bucket – a jumper by Tommy Jones early in the action.

A run of 27 unanswered points in the first half did all but put the game away for the Eagles. Warren County Christian’s Erik Sorensen finally stopped the bleeding with a pair of free throws midway through the second quarter, but Youngsville still took a 31-4 lead into the locker room.

The Lions took a big step forward in the second half as Sorensen scored five of his team-leading seven points in the fourth quarter. Tommy and Joshua Jones added four each in the loss.

For Youngsville, McLaughlin led the way with 19 points while Chuzie added 12.
