Lady Dragons win twice Thursday to move to 5-1; Big inning lifts Eagles past Ike

Warren moved to 4-1 in Region 7 with a 10-0, six-inning win over Strong Vincent earlier Thursday, and then held off Jamestown (N.Y.) for a non-region win later in the day.

Warren (5-1) overcame a six-run second inning by Jamestown, scoring three runs in the second inning to tie the score, 6-6, and twice more in the fifth to take the lead for good.

“I was really happy with the way we answered,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp. “We came back and put three on the board, had some nice quality at bats and some key hits there. I was just really proud of the kids.”

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the second inning, Alexa Bupp’s two-run single tied the score, 6-6. After two scoreless frames, Bupp’s home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth gave Warren the lead, and Sierra Wees had a pinch-hit RBI single to knock in Meghan Loutzenhiser later in the inning.

After Jamestown cut the lead to one run in the top of the sixth, Kaitlin Ishman’s homer gave Warren an insurance run.

Alexa Bupp struck out two in the seventh, following Loutzenhiser, who struck out nine in six innings.

This win came after a shutout of Strong Vincent in a 1:30 p.m. make-up game at the Farm Colony Complex. Loutzenhiser did it with her bat in this one; her three-run homer in the third inning gave Warren a 6-0 lead. Paige Wilson’s home run capped off a two-run first for Warren.

Alex Bupp struck out 12 over six innings, walking just one, for the win.

“We came in knowing the game was important to us because it was a region game,” said coach Bupp.

Warren hosts Corry in a non-region game at noon on Saturday.
