Bupp, Warren shut out Corry
Warren improved to 6-1 overall with its fifth win in a row, 4-0 on Saturday over non-region Corry at Hawbaker Field at the Farm Colony Complex.
Warren led 2-0 after one inning and pitcher Alexa Bupp held Corry (6-2) to one hit over seven innings, walking one and hitting one, while striking out nine.
Bupp, who tripled, and Paige Wilson had two hits each from the 3-4 spots and Warren finished with nine hits.
“I thought both teams played well,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp. “It was an all-around good game. I liked our patience (at the plate).”
Warren took advantage of a couple situations, including the two-run first. With two outs, Alexa Bupp singled and moved to third on a Corry error. She scored on a single by Meghan Loutzenhiser and Paige Wilson, who had reached on that error later scored on a passed ball.
Kathryn Lobdell doubled in the second inning and scored when Lauren Frazier’s bunt was thrown away for a 3-0 Warren lead.
Alex Bupp tripled in the fifth and was knocked in with Wilson’s RBI single. Defensively, coach Bupp said “Ish (Kaitlin Ishman) had a good game at shortstop for us,” and Alexis Munksgard made a nice play at the fence in left field for an out to lead off Corry’s top of the seventh.
Summer Rosendahl had two hits for Warren in an 8-2 junior varsity loss.
Warren is at St. Marys on Monday, and hosts East in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
