Our opinion: Thompson keeps pulse on region
Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard, finds himself running for another term in Congress against Democrat Michael Molesevich.
Molesevich wants to increase the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026, supports expanding USDA operating loan programs to help farms as well as agricultural subsidy reform, supports limited sale of military style weapons, restricting high-capacity magazines, universal background checks and a federal “red flag” bill, supports net-zero emissions from farms by 2050 and pay raises for the military and additional help for veterans.
Thompson, meanwhile, supports bringing federal infrastructure projects into his district, has background in higher education and is the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, an important seat at the table when it comes to setting agriculture policy.
We endorse Thompson to return to the House of Representatives. Thompson has a solid voting record opposing the growth of government and excessive federal spending and supporting the growth of America’s businesses and middle class.
Thompson is a leader in addressing agricultural issues — issues that are vitally important to our region’s economy and too often neglected. He has also taken leadership roles on issues ranging from military housing to trade. Thompson supports the development of natural gas and other critically-needed sources of energy.
Thompson is also a regular visitor to Warren County and has shown himself to be responsive to the region’s needs. The incumbent deserves another two years in Washington, D.C.
