Our opinion: Winterfest brings flurry of activity

Kudos to all those involved in bringing a full slate of Winterfest activities to Chapman State Park this weekend.

Hundreds of people took part in sled dog races, sledding, mountain bike riding, children’s activities, a polar plunge and more after the cancellation of the entire event in 2021. Winterfest has had non-COVID challenges too ranging from a lack of snow, lack of access to the usual site and lack of a lake.

Things came together perfectly this year. All of those fun wintry events don’t happen without a lot of planning and volunteers to make sure things run smoothly and sponsors to help pay the cost for our fun.

There are a lot of ways to spend a cold winter afternoon — cozying up in a warm living room or shoveling the snow we found dumped in our driveways — but it was nice to have Winterfest back this year to provide another outlet for on a chilly February weekend.

We can’t wait until next year.
