RANDOLPH — Austin James Dean Shaffer, 23, of Tyler Whitmore Road, Randolph, town of Napoli, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 6, 2022 in McKean County, Pa.

He was born June 11, 1998 in Warren, Pa., the son of Harvey L. Shaffer of Warren and Danielle L. Marsh of Randolph.

Austin was a 2016 graduate from Randolph Central School, where he was on the varsity football team, track team, and trap shooting team. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 2017-20.

He was currently employed by Harley Davidson of Jamestown, and had previously worked for Gable Belting in Chafee, N.Y., and Rickrak in Concord, N.C. He was an avid hunter and bow hunter, enjoyed fishing, boating and motorcycle riding. His family was his everything, as well as his dog, Hank. He was a member of the Southern Tier Riding Club in Conewango, N.Y.

He is survived by his father, Harvey (Jillian Francis) of Warren Pa.; mother, Danielle (Jeff Lockwood) of Randolph; maternal grandfather, James Marsh of Kennedy; paternal grandmother, Judy (Thompson) Shaffer of Warren; siblings: Katerina F. Shaffer of Warren, Pa, Allie C. Marsh-Durphy and Nicole Lockwood of Randolph and Luke Lockwood of Salt Lake City, Donavyn Francis, Conner Murray and Johanna Murray, all of Jamestown, Kyle Ecker and Kamden Cali, both of Randolph; two nephews: Rheme and Ronnie Haskins; four God Sons: Jace M. and Jaxon C. Barrus of Lillington, N.C., and Lucas Allen and Bowe Jaxson Steward of Conewango Valley, N.Y.; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Austin was preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara (Riffel) Marsh and grandfather, Harvey D. Shaffer.

The family will received relatives and friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022, from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, from where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Molly Golando will officiate. Burial and full military honors will be in the Myrtle Cemetery, Clark’s Corners, Kennedy, N.Y.
