City leaf collection to start next week
Leaf collection in the city of Warren is set to kick off next week.
Crews will be collecting throughout the city on a daily basis, “concentrating on areas of most need,” according to a release from the city.
“We prefer piles so they can be efficiently and easily picked up by the leaf machine,” Kassie Damcott, administrative assistant for the city, said. “Leaves can be bagged, but it is preferred to be in piles.”
Damcott said that limbs, leaves and yard waste can be dropped off at the sewer treatment plant on Harmar St. That site is open year-round, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
For the curbside service, piled leaves will be picked up by the leaf vacuum machines. Bagged leaves will be collected separately.
Residents are asked to place materials on the lawn/curb area and not in the street. Additionally, the city asks that limbs and other yard waste not be mixed in with leaves.
The collection will continue until all the leaves are picked up or until winter comes.
“The leaves we collect during leaf collection season, as well as other limbs and yard waste, separated from the leaves, are all transported to our compost site location on Hemlock to be chipped and turned into compost for the next summer’s compost we offer for free at Betts,” Damcott explained.
