‘Warren County Tales’ set for Wednesday

This year’s Historical Society “Warren Tales” event will bring the author of a suspense-thriller to the Wilder Museum in Irvine this week.

The event, free and family-friendly, is set for Wednesday night at 6.

William DeVlieger will present his book “Wendigo War.”

According to the Historical Society, a wendigo is a “monster from Algonquian folklore that feeds on greed but is never satiated — the more it eats, the hungrier it gets.

“It’s a metaphor for greed,” DeVlieger said.

“What started as a desire to write about his experiences on the reservation became his first novel when his lifelong passion for storytelling combined with the tribe’s environmental battles to provide him with the inspiration for a suspense-thriller,” WCHS Program Manager C.J. Chase said.

DeVlieger has served as the Wilder Museum’s curator and has also been heavily involved in the Boy Scouts.

“Mr. DeVlieger will explain the Ojibwe “Seven Fires” prophecy, and how each fire represents a different era of time,” Chase said. “After his presentation, he will be available to autograph books.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
