Shoppers are out locally picking up last minute items for the holiday in Warren.

With only days to go until Christmas, local businesses offer a wide range of last minute gift options for those running a little behind.

“As always, we encourage everyone to try and shop locally any way they can,” Warren County Chamber of Business & Industry Administrative Assistant Savannah Casey said. “From dining out to retail shopping, automotive care to health and wellness, the possibilities for supporting local are endless.”

Casey noted all chamber restaurant members offer gift cards and there’s a variety of small, local businesses that offer more than meets the eye.

“Places like Allegheny Outfitters, Rad Lands and the boutiques are always good to go to,” she said. “Ekey Marketplace, Virg Ann Flower and Gift Shop and Miss Millies Proper Petals offer more than just flowers. THey are great places for unique gifts like handmade cards and have a variety of gift baskets.”

“We’ve had a bunch of people in here,” Elyssa Davidson at Virg Ann said Thursday afternoon. “Seems like we have a lot of late, last minute, little stuff.”

Staff at Howe’s True Value in Warren said they’ve seen an influx of shoppers as well.

“We’ve had a pretty steady flow this morning,” Rhonda Williams of Howe’s said Thursday morning. “Customers getting last minute things and gift cards. That’s a big one. People must still be decorating as well. They’re getting ornaments and things. We’re selling some bird houses.”

Employees noted they’ve sold items like space heaters and electric griddles that customers said were intended as gifts.

“People are buying more practical things that they’ll actually use,” Michelle Moline of Howe’s said.

Casey noted drink trips for local establishments, appointments for auto care and checking hardware stores for “the hard to shop for guy” can also make good gifts.

“The list goes on and on,” she said. “Checking out websites to places like these is a great way to verify whether they have online gift cards. People can always call our office at 814-723-3050 for more possibilities and contact information.”
