Beaty-Warren parent addresses board about ‘disruptions’
Jessica McGuire, a parent of students at Beaty-Warren Middle School, addressed the Warren County School District board last week over concerns about behavioral issues at the school.
According to McGuire, teachers at the school are having trouble controlling students.
The “disruptions,” she said, are eating into student educational time.
According to McGuire, “unheard of behaviors,” including students practicing self-harm, are causing major issues at the school and have left her wondering whether to move out of the district. She told the board she knows of families that have left the district due to the issue.
McGuire expressed she wanted to approach the board to try to address the issue and seek some sort of improvement before taking the step of relocating with her children.
“Our teachers, counselors, administrators and a host of other staff members work with students and parents every day to work on solutions when there are concerns,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said when asked about alleged issues. “I encourage parents to reach out to the school to discuss specific concerns.”
The district is seeking input from parents on things happening at the individual school building level.
Parents were provided information allowing them to register with Satchel Purse for an initial culture and climate survey. Once registered, an additional follow-up survey is slated to occur every six weeks.
According to a letter posted on the district’s websites, “the survey will enable us to collect anonymous feedback from (parents) that is reflective of what is happening at your child’s school.”
The survey takes approximately 90 seconds to complete, according to the letter.
Satchel Purse provides school improvement software that “supports districts and schools in building a positive culture and helps district leaders deliver long-lasting impactful changes.”
