Youngsville VFD Auxiliary disbanding, cancels craft show

The Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary has opted to disband, according to member Karen Bires.

“There were no younger ones willing to join and the remaining 10 active members were over 70,” Bires said.

Bites also cited declining attendance for auxiliary events as a factor. “The number of dinners and receptions served were down,” she said.

As a result of the decision, the annual Winter Wonderland Craft Show, traditionally at the fire hall in early November, will not be held.

The craft show took place for 36 years, according to Bires.

The show featured homemade crafts and food available for purchase. Last year, the event featured more than 100 craft tables, some manned by individuals who participated from the show’s beginnings. All of the crafts featured were homemade.

“We had the Winter Wonderland Craft Show for 36 years, with four of the tables having been there since the beginning,” Bites said. “Namely, Becky Jameson, Barb Derr, Kathy Chapman and Ann Rock and Linda Salva being there for the Warren County Guide table.”

She said the event will be missed.

“We will miss the friendships we had with the crafters, old and new,” Bites said. “We thank all the crafters that have participated in the show and also the public for attending and supporting it.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
