Senior Expo planned for Friday

The 2023 Warren/Forest Counties Senior Expo is set to take place Friday at the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year’s expo will feature 46 vendors who are “local and providing relevant services to seniors,” according to Director for Center Services Kimberly Wilson, who facilitates the event.

“Sometimes people just don’t know where to go,” she said.

Lunch will be provided at the event by the Rouse Estate and cookies will be provided by the Watson Home. Water will also be offered.

Free raffles will be held, including for $50 Visa gift cards and basket raffles. Additionally, “lots and lots of giveaways throughout” will be available, Wilson said.

The event will feature educational presentations, including a virtual dementia class in the media room.

“You put on these glasses and you learn exactly what having dementia can feel like,” Wilson said.

A fall prevention class, aimed at safety in the home, will be offered.

“We tell people to stay home,” Wilson said. “But home needs to be safe.”

Additionally, shuttles from the Transit Authority of Warren County terminal will be offered hourly beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Wilson thanked event sponsors, saying, “It really helps the Care Counsel. It’s a big thing. It helps.”

The event is organized by the local Care Counsel, which operates under the auspices of Experience, Inc., the local Area Agency on Aging.

“The Care Counsel is a group of organizations with a no wrong door policy,” Wilson said, explaining organizations within the care counsel can redirect inquiries to other organizations regardless of point of contact.

Starting at $4.00/week.
