The midway stands ready for the crowds at the Warren County Fair. Rides are open from 1 until 11 p.m. today and tomorrow.
When people think of the fair, animals and rodeos and pageants may come to mind first; but they’re hardly the only staple of any fair.
For as long as people have had fairs, the flashier features have stood alongside a quieter cousin — still exhibits.
Still exhibits, according to Warren County Fair organizer Linda Fehrenbach, encompass everything from arts and crafts to horticultural products. In Warren County, the fair features more than a dozen such categories, each with its own chairperson.
“It’s a well-oiled machine,” she noted.
Fehrenbach cited the certain exhibits as annual draws.

“What’s been quite popular is the photography,” she said. “The vegetables are also always popular. We’re doing a ‘dress the vegetable’ contest and, last I checked, we had over 100 entries.”
She also said there are some new attractions this year, including a fairy garden contest and a temperature blankets.
Fairy gardens, she explained, are dioramas set in dishes designed to resemble “where a fairy might live.”
Meanwhile, a temperature blanket is a knit or crocheted blanket added to each day according to the temperature, she explained. Yarn colors are picked to reflect temperature ranges, for instance white for very cold days or red for very hot ones.
