County commissioners approve property tax settlement

With property tax reassessment on the horizon, another property tax appeal has come to settlement.

The county commissioners approved a settlement, which must also be approved by the Warren County School District and local municipalities, with the GG Greene Estate regarding a Pine Street warehouse and a Conewango Avenue residence.

County Solicitor Nathaniel Schmidt said the appeals process included appraisals for 316 Pine St. and 1235 Conewango Ave. and said he was “recommending the county accept the adjusted assessed values.”

He added that the Pine Avenue property is listed as “fair” but said that “could be considered generous.”

The settlement will date back to the 2020 tax year and set the assessed value for the Pine Street property at approximately $11,900 and the fair market value for the Conewango Ave. property at $300,000.

Online assessment records list the current market value for Conewango Avenue at $196,896 while the assessed value at Pine Street is currently $9,750.

The commissioners also approved a letter to terminate a software agreement for the Register & Recorder’s office.

Schmidt said there are “material defects” in the firm’s performance though “some attempt has been made to correct them.

“(The) county is interested in exploring some other options,” Schmidt said.

Elections Director Krystle Ransom noted that Wednesday marked the last day for candidates to withdraw from the spring primary ballot.

“The ballot will go into proofing stage as of tomorrow,” she said. “Nothing will be sent out prior to one month of the election.”
