City officials working to roll out facade funding
City officials are working on rolling out the next phase of a facade improvement program.
The city was awarded $50,000 in state funding late last year to continue the initiative which was initially funded by the city’s Redevelopment Authority.
“(We are) now in the process of advertising that the window to apply for grants will open in February and run through April,” Randy Rossey, the city’s director of codes and planning, told the Planning Commission.
“We’ve focused on the east side primary and downtown twice” with prior facade funding, he said, explaining that this initiative will be open to businesses that are zoning commercial. That includes the downtown, most of the Pennsylvania Ave. corridor and some properties along upper Conewango Ave.
A joint review committee made up of members of the Commission and the RDA will, he said, meet with applicants and ensure a proposal meets the criteria for the grant.
That committee “may offer suggestions as to what their project entails,” Rossey said. “(We) will work with the applicant to hopefully get a successful project concluded.”
