Warren man jailed on assault charges
A Warren man is behind bars in the wake of an alleged assault Monday night.
Michael A. Peterson, 54, 10 Franklin St., was charged by City of Warren police late Monday in the wake of the attack.
Officers, according to the affidavit of probable cause, were dispatched to a Pennsylvania Ave. W. apartment “for a report of a female screaming for help.”
Police say they met with the victim, who made the call. They say her face “was covered in blood” and swelling was apparent in the area of her left eye in addition to bruises on her arms and hands.
The victim told police that Peterson, her ex-boyfriend, was “just at her apartment and beat her up.” She told police that he punched her several times “and pulled out a bunch of her hair” and “put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.”
She told police, per the affidavit, that Peterson also put a knife in her mouth “to the back of her throat” as well as to her stomach, threatening to stab her.
Police say they observed items in the residence that “had been thrown all over the place” and observed blood in several locations as well as the knives allegedly involved in the incident.
The charges filed in the case include two counts of aggravated assault, both felonies, as well as terroristic threats.
Online court records show that Peterson was arraigned by District Judge Raymond Zydonik at 6:15 Tuesday morning and was placed in Warren County Jail after he was unable to post $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month.
