County sets new record for COVID cases in a month
Warren County closed out January with 53 new cases of COVID-19 announced on Tuesday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,279 cases in the month, making it the month with the most new cases so far. The previous high was 1,171, set in December 2020.
There were 16 COVID-related deaths reported in January, including one added to the toll on Tuesday.
Each day, at about 1 p.m., the department presents totals from the day before.
The county had been trending downward in new cases over the past few days. After 82 new cases were reported for Jan. 24., there had been 36, 42, 37, 33, 16, and five until Tuesday’s report.
The county has now had a total of 6,891 cases and 196 deaths.
The number of cases represents about 17.5 for every hundred residents.
The department reported seven COVID-positive patients at Warren General Hospital, with none of those on ventilators and none in intensive care.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the positivity rate in the county was 19.33 percent
Warren County, like almost all of the United States, was an area of high community transmission, according to CDC.
As of Tuesday, there were a few counties in the country with low levels of community transmission — Arthur County, Nebraska, and King and Terrell counties in Texas — and one with substantial community transmission — Oldham County, Texas.
A total of 17,624 residents have been fully vaccinated, according to the department. That is about 45 percent of the total population and 48 percent of the population ages five and older.
