City seeks local compliance to help remove snow
Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry Heavy snows can make it easy to pick out which cars — like these on Hickory Street — haven’t moved and make it hard to get around the City of Warren. City officials plan to begin enforcing a 72-hour parking limit on city streets.
The City of Warren has an ordinance on its books that prohibits leaving cars parked on city streets for more than 72 hours.
City officials are asking residents to live up to that ordinance and move their cars in order to help crews with their plowing work.
“It is unlawful for any person to stop, park, leave standing, or store any motorized vehicle on any street or roadway for a continuous period in excess of seventy-two hours,” according to the ordinance. “All vehicles parked on city streets must be moved at least once during a 72-hour period.”
City police are prepared to ticket violators.
“With the recent winter storm, officers will be enforcing the 72-hour ordinance,” Capt. Jeff Dougherty said. “If they don’t move it, a ($15) ticket will be issued. If the vehicle is not moved within 48 hours of the first ticket, a second ($35) ticket will be issued and the vehicle will be impounded.”
The city’s rule applies to trailers and dumpsters — although there are additional requirements for those kinds of items. “For these to be parked on the street, a permit is required,” Dougherty said.
