Surge of COVID cases continues in Warren

The surge of COVID cases in Warren County continues.

According to the statistics released Thursday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, there were 71 new cases of COVID-19 in the county on Wednesday.

That is one of the highest single-day totals yet. There were three days with at least 70 new cases between Dec. 16 and 21, including 78 on Dec. 19 — the single-day high for the county. The next highest single-day was Oct. 19, when the department reported 67 new cases.

There were also three more COVID-related deaths reported in the county on Thursday, bringing the pandemic toll to 135.

There have been 4,268 cases in the county so far. Of those, 3,488 are confirmed, and 780 probables.

There have been nine COVID-positive patients at Warren General Hospital over the past week. There were in intensive care and none are on ventilators on Wednesday, according to the department.

Vaccination numbers rose slightly compared to Wednesday’s data, with eight more county residents fully vaccinated, 24 more partially vaccinated, and 75 more receiving boosters.

The Pfizer pediatric COVID vaccine is not yet available locally. Clinics are opening up in New York, but family members must live, work, or study in that state to receive the vaccine there.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Warren County remains an area of high community transmission.

“Everyone in Warren County should wear a mask in public, indoor settings,” according to CDC. “Mask requirements might vary from place to place. Make sure you follow local laws, rules, regulations or guidance.”

The CDC is also reporting an increase in tests and positivity rate in the county for the most recent reporting periods.

During the week ending Oct. 28, there were 892 COVID tests administered in the county. For the week ending Nov. 1, 26.64 percent of tests were positive.

Starting at $3.50/week.
