Census data shows 7.7% dip in county population

U.S. Census Bureau data released Thursday shows a 7.7 percent population decrease in Warren County between 2010 and 2020.

The data is part of the package provided for state and federal reapportionment.

The 2010 figure for Warren County was a total of 41,815 individuals.

Data included as part of a breakdown on race and ethnicity across the country report the 2020 number for the county at 38,587, a decline of 3,228 people over the decade.

The rate of decline was substantially lower in the City of Warren, 9, 710 in 2010 to 9,404 in 2020 — about a 3.1 percent change.

“On August 12, we released the redistricting data to the states and the public,” the Bureau’s website explained “States may use these data in redrawing congressional, legislative, and local district boundaries. The Census Bureau will also deliver the final redistricting data toolkit to all states and the public by September 30.”

Prior data released as part of that process indicates that Pennsylvania will lose a seat in the House of Representatives as a result of the 2020 numbers.

The population of Pennsylvania declined by about 300,000 while the national population increased by approximately 13 million between 2010 and 2020.

The Census Bureau says that pandemic delays and “prioritizing the delivery of these apportionment results” delayed initial timelines.

“More 2020 Census population results will be available later including statistics on age, sex, race and ethnicity, and details about the center of population.”

Data specifically regarding race and ethnicity also released on Thursday shows a 3.6 decrease in “white alone” category – from 98.1 percent of the county population in 2010 to 94.5 percent in 2020.
