Area ends month averaging under 5 cases a day

There were six new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths reported in Warren County on Monday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced totals of 2,166 cases and 98 deaths.

Among the 2,166 total cases, 1,766 are confirmed and 400 are probables.

There was no change in the reporting for Warren General Hospital — one COVID-positive patient who was neither on a ventilator nor in intensive care.

The totals for February include 139 new cases — just under five per day — and seven deaths — one every four days on average.

There were 547 new cases (17.6 per day) – 450 confirmed and 97 probable – and 65 deaths (more than two per day) announced in January.

In December, there were 1,171 new cases (37.8 per day) and 25 deaths (almost one per day), and in November there were 196 new cases (6.5 per day) and no deaths.

The county’s first COVID-related death was reported in July.

In February, there were 37 new confirmed cases and 19 probables in the Warren zip code, 10 and 13 in Russell, 11 and three in Sheffield, eight and two in both Sugar Grove and Youngsville, five confirmed in Grand Valley, and four confirmed and one probable in Tidioute. No other zip codes that are located mostly within in the county had more than three new cases.

Chautauqua County, N.Y., also ended February with some of its best COVID-19 statistics since the early months of the pandemic.

The county Health Department reported 65 new confirmed cases from Friday through Sunday — meaning the month ended with an average of about 28 new cases each day. That’s compared to December and January, where 2,008 cases and 2,882 case were recorded, respectively.

According to the Pennsylvania department’s vaccine dashboard, 2,353 Warren County residents had received both doses of the available vaccine and were fully covered as of Monday and another 2,320 had received the first dose and were partially covered.

Warren County has been listed as an area of ‘moderate’ transmission for the last three weeks according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
