Candidates ready for debate

Shelbie Stromyer

There will not be a state Senate debate in Warren County this year.

However, the candidates will be debating in Clarion County, and that debate will be streamed live.

The League of Women Voters of Warren County is working with that event.

“Due to COVID gathering restrictions the League of Women Voters of Warren County are supporting the League of Women Voters of Clarion County for a debate at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15,” Vice President of Communications Phyllis Wright said. “Scott Hutchinson (R) and Shelbie Stromyer (D) are the candidates running for the PA Senate District 21 seat.”

“Explore Clarion will be live-streaming the debate,” Wright said. “You can access the broadcast at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 at www.exploreClarion.com or Facebook.com/exploreClarion.”

“Viewing the live streaming debate gives the community the opportunity to focus on issues of particular interest in our area,” she said. “Clarion attorney and League member, Cassandra Neely, Esq., will moderate the debate.”

Each candidate will be given the opportunity to give an opening statement.

After that, each will answer a question given to them in advance by the League.

Finally, they will face a series of questions submitted by voters and members of the Warren and Clarion leagues. The questions were reviewed by representatives of the two leagues and the three political student associations at Clarion University — College Democrats, College Republicans, and College Democratic Socialists — and edited for clarity, appropriateness to the office, and to avoid duplication.

“Attend this live streaming debate and hear the candidates’ goals for District 21 and what they hope to accomplish,” Wright said.

Interested viewers who are unable to to catch the event live may view it on Explore Clarion.
