Missionaries visit the area

The local Methodist churches support missionaries monthly. The Vanderhoofs are missionaries that will be visiting the area on July 1 to discuss what they are doing in Kenya. The public is invited to meet James and Alice Vanderhoof’s missionaries with World Gospel Missions on Wednesday night, July 1, at the Lottsville United Methodist Church. Those interested are asked to bring a salad to share for a light dinner at 6 p.m. followed with their time of sharing at 7 p.m. This will be a combined church activity with Bear Lake, Lottsville, Sugar Grove and Chandlers Valley churches.

Eisenhower High School held its graduation celebration on Friday, June 5.

Hill and Dale

Garden Club

The Hill and Dale Garden Club will be holding a Luncheon and Informal Flower Show on June 24, starting at noon, at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Educational Building. Members and guests are invited to attend, and asked to bring a main dish to share and a table service. Desserts will be provided by the committee. Hostesses are Lynn Allen, chairperson, with assistance by Linda Cross, Betty Flasher, Elizabeth McMillen, and Priscilla Spencer. The guest speaker will be Tom Atkins from WJET TV in Erie. Members should bring their flowers and plants by 11:30 a.m. for flower check-in, which will be done by Louse Dyer from Warren Garden Club and Ruth Ann Devore from Hill and Dale Garden Club.

AMVETS Convention

The AMVETS 70th Annual Convention was held in Wilkes Barre this past weekend. AMVETS Post 50 in Sugar Grove brought home the Most Patriot AMVETS trophy for the 11th year in a row. The Ladies Auxiliary returned home with the Most Patriotic Ladies AuxiliaryAward. These awards are based on the entire AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania due to the hard work and dedication of its members and the Sugar Grove community for the past year.

Contributions are made to various organizations such as Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, PAWS with a Cause, John Tracy Clinic and St. Jude’s to name a few outside the community. AMVETS Post 50 PNC Commander Gary Fry thanked the AMVETS Department of PA for recognizing the small community and its accomplishments toward Veterans, children’s programs and community.

AMVETS Father’s

Day Event

The AMVETS Post No. 50 Ladies Auxiliary will be featuring a Father’s Day breakfast buffet from 8:300-11 a.m. Sunday, June 21.

Get in the Lottsville Loop

Registration is now open for “Get in the Loop” – the Lottsville Loop five-mile race and 1.5-mile fun run/walk to be held in conjunction with the Celebrate Lottsville’s Bicentennial on Saturday, September 12.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Wrightsville and Bear Lake Fire Depts. The race starts at 9:30 a.m. and Fun run/walk starts at 9:35 a.m. Registration will be from 8:15-9:15 a.m. at the Lottsville United Methodist Church. The cost will be $15 before August 22, and this will guarantee a tee-shirt. The cost will be $20 after August 22, with no tee-shirt guarantee. Award categories will be for five-mile run only – First male and female overall, top three male and female runners in each age group. No awards will be presented for fun run/walk. Age groups for five-mile race awards will be 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+.

Since this is a new event, the course outline is for the race to start and ends at the Lottsville church on Lottsville-Niobe Rd. The five-mile loop race is a scenic, mostly-flat course with a few rolling hills on black top and dirt roads. The course crosses two water bridges and one railroad bridge with fantastic rural views. The fun run/walk is an out and back flat course on black top. There will be two water stations on five-mile race course.
