Hunter mentor program offered

COVID-19 has caused some people to renew their love of the outdoors, and the Ruffed Grouse Society is an organization making it easier for folks to enjoy the outdoors by offering a new hunter mentor program. The local Allegheny Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society is offering the program to people interested in conservation and hunting of upland birds. The program will be offered on Sunday, Sept. 20, in Johnsonburg, and Saturday, Oct. 17, near Ridgway. A final location has yet to be determined. PennDOT centers to observe holiday

All Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver license and photo centers will be closed Saturday through Monday in observance of Labor Day. Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov. Allegheny Outdoor Club finishes cleaning trail Thursday

The Allegheny Outdoor Club on Thursday will finish cleaning the brush along the bike trail in Warren at the end of East Street parking area. Members will meet at 9 a.m. Call Earl Ross for any questions at (814) 706-1198. On Sunday, the group will ride on the Sandy Creek Trail from Fishermans Cove to Van. Route 6 bridge work to begin next week

A bridge in southeastern Warren County is closed for the next week. According to PennDOT District 1-0 press officer Jill Harry, “the bridge that carries Route 6 over Roystone Run in Sheffield Township, Warren County is closed for a replacement project.” The bridge is near the McKean County border. A detour using routes 666, 948, and 66 has been posted. Harry said the work is expected to be complete and the road to reopen Aug. 30.

VFD to unveil new truck Aug. 29 The next meeting of the Hill & Dale Garden Club will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at New Beginnings in Sugar Grove for lunch. Those attending are asked to make reservations by calling Ruth Ann DeVore or Peg Stino. At 1:45 p.m. the group will proceed to the library for talks on herbs, teas and soaps as well as a visit to the Sugar Grove Garden.

Harvest Produce Express is set

PITTSFIELD — The 2nd Harvest Produce Express will be at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 258 Dalrymple St., Pittsfield, on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Food pick-up will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. The agency will serve 100 families on a first-come, first-served basis. No pre-registration necessary. Volunteer workers please arrive by 2 p.m. All CDC guidelines will be followed, including use of masks.
