Youngville Life: Youngsville Public Library to offer Hi-Ed classes

(a) Hi-Ed classes @ YPL: Youngsville Public Library will be the hosting site for 3 separate classes that are regularly offered through Warren-Forest Hi-Ed. The courses are taught by Hi-Ed instructors. Pre-registration and pre-payment is necessary and must be done through the Hi-Ed website. The cost for each class is paid directly to Hi-Ed (via their website) and is not a donation to the Youngsville Library. Seating is limited for all 3 classes, so be sure to register early. To register visit: hi-ed.org On their homepage click on the “classes & registration online” tab. Then on the drop-down, select “Youngsville Classes”, from there you can click which class you are interested in.

CPR/AED/Standard First Aid class. Friday, June 14th from 8:30 am – Noon: Cost $40. Learn life-saving skills and gain the confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations with our comprehensive CPR, AED, and Standard First Aid certification course. Led by certified instructors, this course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and hands-on training necessary to respond to cardiac emergencies, provide basic first aid, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe and effective manner. Get Certified! Must pre-register at Hi-Ed.org

iPhone/iPad class. Wednesday, June 19th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm: Cost $29. Upon completion of this hands-on learning session, you’ll have a much deeper understanding of your iPhone and iPad and you’ll be equipped to use them more effectively in your daily life. Whether you’re interested in mastering essential functions or exploring advanced features, this course will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to make the most of your Apple devices.

CANVA 101 (graphic design tool) class. Wednesday, July 10th from 1:30 -3:30 pm: cost $29. CANVA is a free-to-use/access online graphic design program that can be used to quickly and easily create flyers, social media posts, posters, videos, logos, presentations, and more. Do you want to learn how to make your flyers, social media posts, posters etc. look more professional for your personal use or on behalf of an organization but you don’t have much experience? Then this class is for you! CANVA is a super easy graphic design program that integrates millions of images, fonts, templates, and illustrations for everyone from beginner status to more advanced; you can even download your personal photos to enhance your flier, poster, or social media post. Best of all CANVA is a FREE platform to use.

(b) Legion Poppies @ YPL: The Youngsville American Legion and Yngs Legion Auxiliary Unit has the Official Red Poppies available at the Youngsville Public Library circulation desk now through Memorial Day. These Official Red Poppies are made by disabled Veterans in Hospitals and are part of a nationwide Fundraising campaign both in memoriam of and in honor of veterans. A donation jar is next to the Poppies. Donations received will directly benefit our veterans. YPLibrary hours are Mon & Wed 10 am – 6 pm, Tues 10 am – 3 pm, and Friday 11 am – 4 pm.

(c) Spring Book Sale: The Youngsville Public Library will be having a one-day only Spring “Book Sale” on Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, located inside Youngsville Library. This is the second year of this now annual fundraising event. Although this Spring “Book Sale” will be a bit smaller scale than the Annual September book sale, there will still be a great selection of materials from DVDs to Children’s books and everything in between. Cost is by donation.

BOROUGH NEWS

(a) BVSP season passes: Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool Season Passes go on sale May 1st at the Youngsville Borough Office. A $10 discount on season passes purchased May 1st – May 31st. Season pass at “regular prices” are as follows: (a) Family Pass (includes 6 people) – $135 with each additional person at $25 per person, (b) Adult – $100 per, (c) Student/Senior – $90 per, (d) Babysitter – $50 per, (e) Swimmercise – $65 each, and (f) Lap Swim – $65. The prices listed here are for Youngsville Borough residents, all other area residents add $10 per category. BVSP brochures are available at the Youngsville Public Library and Borough office. (b) Yard Clean-up Help: ROY and the Rouse are presenting: Yard Clean-up Assistance for Homebound Individuals in Youngsville for June 1st and June 2nd. If you would like help with general yard clean-up and/or maintenance please call 814-563-7565 by 05/15/2024 to sign up for assistance or email RMartin@rouse.org. Individuals interested in volunteering to help with this program please email RMartin@rouse.org; this is also a wonderful opportunity for service organizations to help the community as well.

(c) Boro Spring Clean-up: The annual Youngsville Borough Spring Clean Up date will be Saturday, May 11 from 8:00 am – Noon. The Boro Spring Clean-up is for Boro residents only, ID (proof of Boro residency) is required. Location: Borough Building Parking Lot (40 Railroad Street). Cost: $15 per car or $25 per truck. Please NO: tires, batteries, paint cans, propane tanks, desktop/laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals (accessories), televisions, or any other electron devices, or other hazardous materials. MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

(a) Touch-A-Truck: Saturday, May 4th from Noon – 5:00 pm, join Johnson Transportation (29200 Route 6, Youngsville) as they celebrate 100 years in school bus transportation at their free event supporting local businesses. There will be food vendors and craft vendors too. There will also be free items handed out that promote school bus safety. If you have your little ones tell them a bus safety tip, they will get a ticket for a chance to win a door prize. In addition there will be touch-a-truck opportunities and a “flip the bus demonstration,” brought to you by Koebley towing and recovery. Basket raffle too, $10 per sheet with 10 chances to win. All proceeds from the basket raffle will be donated to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
