Out and About

The next version of Out and About – where seniors are transported via a Transit Authority of Warren County (TAWC) bus for a night out at an area restaurant – will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22. The group is going to Huey’s in Youngsville. Those driving themselves are asked to be at the restaurant at 5 p.m. To reserve a spot on the bus, call (814) 723-4180.

Support group

The Allegheny Community Center is starting a support group for grandparents that are raising their grandchildren. Art projects will be available for children. The group will also aim to identify concerns with available services. The support groups begins on Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Memory Care Cafe

The Memory Care Café at the Allegheny Community Center provides the opportunity for persons living with dementia and their loved ones for friendship, fun, creativity, and connections. Dementia practitioners from the Rouse will be on hand to do an activity with the persons living with dementia while the ACC provides some fun and creative down time to their caregivers. The next session will be held Aug. 8 from noon to 2 p.m.

Tai Chi class

Join a fun and effective Tai Chi Class

Tai Chi is a gentle exercise that helps with stamina, balance, and can be performed either sitting or standing. Classes are held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the ACC.

Painting classes

Watercolor and acrylic classes are held every week at the ACC. Watercolor is on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. and acrylic classes are on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. All the supplies are free.

Weekly offerings

Programs offered weekly at the ACC include bingo, Scrabble, bridge, line dancing, Mah Jongg, Tai Chi, Make it/ Take it and a decluttering class.

Safe driving class

The ACC is offering a “Seniors for Safe Driving Class” on Sept. 15 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The course allows seniors to save five percent on auto insurance premiums. Tuition is $17 per person. Make checks payable to SFSD, PO Box 505, Lyndora, Pa., 16045. To reserve a spot, call (800) 559-4880.
