SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN

Children’s programming hosted by the Youngsville Public Library and community partners continues over the next few weeks.

STEM-ulating Stories with Sara pairs stories with STEM-inspired activities/crafts during this program series. The program is geared for children between the ages of 5 and 12. No registration is required but provided materials is limited to 25 participants. There are three more programs in the series on Mondays, July 18, July 25 and Aug. 1 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Monday’s theme is “Magnetic Slime.”

Batty about Bats”: Youngsville area kids anxiously awaited YPLibrary’s “Fiction and Fitness” partnership program with “Bat-ted Breath” located at the pavilion of the Yngs YMCA Branch. “Bats & Bugs” was the latest topic in this highly interactive, 6-part educational-program series.

Educational Escapades takes place from 10 to 11 a.m. at Chapman State Park, Pavilion #2. This Chapman Park partnership program features nature stories, nature facts, hands-on exploration, a take-home craft, and a free snack. There are three dates. The July 21 topic is “Track the Poop” in which those attending will learn about animal tracks and animal scat. On Aug. 4 the group will learn about birds, including bird watching and bird features, while the Aug. 18 topic is butterflies. No registration is required. Programs are held rain or shine.

During Plants and Pollinators, held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, July 19, July 26 and Aug. 2, children between the ages of 5 and 18 can learn about plants in a partnership the Youngsville Public Library and Warren Co. 4-H. No registration is required. Programs are held rain or shine in Island Park, Youngsville, in the main pavilion. Those attending do not have to participate in all three programs. Each program includes nature stories, plants and pollinators facts, craft, a free snack, and take-home activities. Visit YoungsvilleLibrary.org for additional summer programming information.

Fiction and Fitness, held Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. in the pavilion of the Youngsville YMCA branch, will focus on baseball on July 20. The Aug. 3 theme is bees and the Aug. 17 theme is fish and feathers, with a focus on turkey calls. Fiction and Fitness includes themed stories with a corresponding fitness activity, a healthy snack and a take-home craft. Target ages are 3-12 years but all are welcome. No registration is required. Programming rain or shine.

YOUNGSVILLE SPORTS BOOSTERS JUBILEE IS JULY 22-23

Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, the Youngsville Eagle Sports Boosters will be hosting their annual Sports Boosters Jubilee at the Youngsville Fire Hall.

“Magnificent Plants”: Get ready to investigate plants and have some fun in this three-part, hands-on learning program series “Plants & Pollinators” from YPLibrary and Warren Co. 4-H.

In addition to events, “Cash Raffle” tickets will be available at the Youngsville Borough Office for $10 each. Four $500 winners will be drawn on July 23, at 9 p.m.

Friday, July 22, events, include a fish fry starting at 5 p.m.. A cornhole tournament, at a cost of $30 per team, will begin at 6 p.m. Registration for the tournament begins at 5 p.m. A children’s carnival will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. including a dunking booth, carnival games, face painting, cotton candy, food vendors and performances by The Bubble Gum machine at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Youngsville Fire Hall Truck Room will host games of chance, dollar drafts with mug purchase (ID required), basket raffle, pull tabs and axe throwing.

Events continue Saturday, July 23, starting with the duck race at 1:30 p.m. at Brokenstraw Creek. A parade will begin at 3 p.m. starting at the corner of Davis and East Main streets and proceeding west down East Main street to I.O.O.F. street. A chicke barbecue starts at 5 p.m. until sold out. The children’s carnival returns from 5 to 8 p.m. and includes a dunking booth, carnival games, face painting, cotton candy and food vendors, The fire hall’s truck room will host the band “Necessary Experience” from 6 to 10 p.m. along with games of chance, dollar drafts with mug purchase (ID required), basket raffle, pull tables and axe throwing.

The Duck Race will start at the Brokenstraw Creek at Island Park to the bridge over the Brokenstraw in downtown Youngsville. Sponsor a Duck for $5 to win cash prizes: first prize — $100, second prize — $50, third prize — $25. Ducks will be sold on today during YABA days; Sunday at the Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool, and July 22 at the jubilee. Ducks can also be sponsored by calling or texting 814-730-5581.

All ducks will be released from the middle of the Brokenstraw near the deck at Island Park. After the release it will be every duck for itself. The first three ducks to cross the finish line, which will be marked at the bridge, will win cash prizes for their sponsors. Judges will make the final determination in a “photo finish” situation. The race will be moved to Aug. 6 at 1:30 p.m. in case of rain or high water. The race is sponsored by the Youngsville Sons of the American Legion.

Photos submitted to the Times Observer Explosive fun at YPLibrary: Jensen and Scarlet had a “blast” creating their very own Volcanic Sandcastle during Youngsville Library’s program “STEM-ulating Stories with Sara” on Monday.

LIBRARY NEWS

On Wednesday, Danielle Ditz will hold three separate career development workshops at the Youngsville Public Library.

A SkillUP PA workshop will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. SkillUP PA is an in-person session with walk-ins welcome. SkillUP PA provides access to more than 6,000 free, online skills training courses to help area residents prepare for a new career path,

From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Ditz will have an open, walk-in question-and-answer session. Ask personalized questions regarding job searches, PA CareerLink, free job training opportunities, and more. No registration is needed.

From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., “Pre-employment Tests and Application Follow-ups” is available for in-person, virtual, or by-phone attendance. The workshop does require registration by calling Ditz at 814-272-4020 or emailing Danielle.Ditz@NWPACareerLink.org. Music in Park, Warren: Free City of Warren Music in the Park, Fridays at 7 p.m. at Soldiers & Sailors Park. On Friday, “Smokehouse” will perform classic rock while Jeff Fetterman will play classic rock on July 29.

Music in Park, Youngsville: Free Youngsville Music in the Park, Thursdays, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Island Park features Aaron Reinard, on Thursday. The Island Park Summer Music Series is presented by Youngsville Recreation.
