GRACEFULLY CLASS TO BE HELD APRIL 26 AT

CENTER

Christine Smith will be leading a discussion on Aging Gracefully at the Allegheny Community Center on April 26 at 2 p.m. Join Smith as the group discusses the subject of sugar. Learn more about sugar cravings and what causes them, the harms of sugar, and how to identify and avoid sugars. Pick up tips about sugar replacements and take back control of one’s food. Learn how and why sugar affects metabolism, weight loss, energy, and inflammation. Christine Smith is a NBC-HWC, National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach from the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy.

BINGOCIZE

Looking for a new, fun way to be more active and connect with others? Join us at the Allegheny Community Center for Bingocize, which combines exercise and health information with the familiar game of Bingo, which has shown to be a great, fun way to get moving and socializing. Light refreshments will be available and prizes will be offered as well! The program is free and paid for in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. Bingocize will run from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays through May 19 and you can attend as often as you are able.

COOKING CLASS

On the first and third Wednesday of every month the Allegheny Community Center will hold a Cooking and Nutrition class. Come join us as we make many different foods and baked goods.

PAINTING CLASS

Artist Gail Bidwell will be starting painting classes at the ACC in the dining room on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $10 per class with supplies included unless a special project is requested. Call the ACC to sign up.

RECEPTIONIST NEEDED

The Allegheny Community Center is in need of a receptionist for shifts from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and noon to 3 p.m. Thursdays. Anyone interested is asked to stop in or call 814-723-4180.

SENIORS

The Allegheny Community Center has applications on-site for various programs such as LIHEAP (for heating), Water and Waste to help with water and sewer bills as well as a rental assistance application. Anyone with questions asked to call the Community Assistance Office at 814-723-6330. Rental assistance questions can be directed to the Warren-Forest EOC at (814) 726-2400, ext. 107. The EOC also has an application of second Harvest food distribution at the Lutheran Church.

GUIDANCE

Are you turning 65 soon? Are you receiving lots of Medicare mail from lots of companies making it very confusing to know what plan would be best for you? Medi PA is not associated with any insurance company and we don’t sell insurance. Our team of experienced councilors from your local Area Agency on Aging can help by giving you unbiased information and eliminating Medicare confusion. If you are turning 65 or even starting thinking about your Medicare options you’ll want to attend “Making Sense of Medicare” on Tuesday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the Allegheny Community Center dining room. CHRONIC DISEASE SELF-MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Starting Wednesday, March 23 at the Warren YMCA from 9 to 11:30 a.m. is a free, six-session Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. For more information, call Experience, Inc..

MAKE IT TAKE IT!

April at the Make It Take It class will be making Apple Crisp on the 6th and Healthy Fruit Smoothies on the 20th. Sign up at the ACC or call 814-723-4180.

Here’s a look at the meal calendar for November which is, unfortunately, subject to change due to supply chain issues. Remember that you must order meals two weeks in advance. Please call your local center to order or – if needed – cancel meals.

April 11: Sweet and sour chicken with white rice, broccoli and cauliflower blend, wheat bread and mixed fruit.

April 12: Baked meatloaf with baked potato, beets, bread and fresh fruit.

April 13: Supreme pizza casserole with salad, green beans, white bread and applesauce.

April 14: Glazed ham with whipped sweet potatoes, peas and carrots, dinner roll and pudding.

April 18: Baked ham with scalloped potatoes, peas and carrots, salad, dinner roll and coconut cake.

April 19: BBQ pork ribette with sweet potato bites, green beans, wheat bread and pineapple delight.

April 20: Hot turkey sandwich with whipped potatoes, corn, bread and cookie.
