Stop signs have been placed at each end of a bridge on Route 62 in Pleasant Township that PennDOT says is in poor condition.

Last month, state officials put a weight restriction on a bridge described in “poor” condition that’s located on Route 62 between Warren and Tidioute.

On Thursday, stop signs were placed at the ends “in connection with a lane restriction on the bridge. The change in the traffic pattern also includes reposting a new weight restriction on the structure.”

The new weight limit is 32 tons per vehicle or 40 tons for combination loads, according to PennDOT.

Vehicles exceeding the weight limit will have to use alternate routes including US 6 as well as routes 27 and 36.

Weight limits were implemented in response to a routine inspection that uncovered “deterioration” to the 23-foot concrete bridge, the department said last month.

“Closing the southbound lane and creating the weight restriction will reduce strain on the bridge and will preserve safety until repairs or a replacement can occur,” they said Thursday. “Work on the bridge is anticipated to occur later this year.”

The bridge dates to 1928 and is classified as in poor condition. PennDOT says about 1,000 vehicles use the bridge daily.
