Hennessy is YMCA’s feature lifeguard of month
Kylee Ann Hennessy is the YMCA’s Feature lifeguard this month.
Kylee is a 19-year-old head lifeguard at the CAR pool for the Warren County YMCA. She is the daughter of Danielle English, Joe English and Bob Hennessy and is a sophomore at Jamestown community college, studying business and management
She is not only a lifeguard but a swim instructor, too. She has worked at the YMCA for four years and likes being a good leader for others.
Kylee decided to be a lifeguard because her entire family did it growing up and she wanted to follow in their footsteps.
She says her best skill that she has learned is spotting someone in crisis in water. “Knowing how to spot a drowning person even when your aren’t on duty, and knowing how to help them” Is a skill she will have all her life. Kaylee states: “With lifeguards at the YMCA and the City pool we are able to keep people safe.”
“I love my role as head guard, knowing that others look up to me, and knowing they can always reach out to me for help is a wonderful feeling,” she said. “A day that I realized my roll was important was hearing the kids call my name in excitement when they come out for swim lessons. Knowing that they look forward seeing me is an amazing feeling.”
Dani Mumford YMCA Aquatics Director said, “She is a hard worker and a great example of how the Y raises young adults to be a leader. When she started at 16 she was quite and since then she has grown into an amazing leader at the CAR Pool as head guard and at the Y during after school lessons. She sets a great example for my new younger staff and is doing a great job mentoring them in the position.”
