Learn how to dye eggs naturally March 6

On Saturday, March 6, Audubon Community Nature Center gives area residents three opportunities to learn how to dye eggs using natural products.

Dyeing eggs is a traditional springtime activity for all ages.

On Saturday, March 6, Audubon Community Nature Center is presenting a workshop-style make-and-take, where those interested can learn how to use plants, food scraps, spices and beverages to color eggs.

Registrations are being accepted for an hour-long session beginning at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m.

Bring up to four hard-boiled eggs to place in the dyes to make colored eggs to take home. While the eggs are soaking, the groups will make another batch of dye and learn about other egg decoration techniques.

Those who want to take some dye home can bring a jar with a tight-fitting lid as well.

Audubon’s COVID-19 safety precautions require face coverings for all visitors ages 3 and up for indoor programs.

The program fee is $10 for adults, or $7.50 for Nature Center members and children 9-15. Enrollment is limited. Paid reservations are required by Thursday, March 4, by calling 569-2345 during business hours or going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Upcoming Programs.”

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa. The first floor of the Nature Center building, including the Blue Heron Gift Shop, live animals, and the 2020 Nature Photography Contest winning photographs, is open Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Because not all of the building is accessible, admission is by donation only. Area residents can visit the 600-acre nature preserve from dawn to dusk daily. While practicing safe social distancing measures, hike, snowshoe, or cross country ski the six miles of trails and view Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle.
