There once was a village called Dewdrop

We shouldn’t over-think some of these names.

Like Dewdrop.

The village was located in Corydon Township along Kinzua Creek.

It was named because of the heavy dews in the area and centered around a large sawmill operated by the Campbell Lumber Company of Kane.

For as rural as it is, it once had decent transportation access. The Kinzua & Tiona Railroad ran to the location in addition to a logging road that ran up Dewdrop Run.

The mill and the railroad moved to West Virginia in the early 20th century.

Obviously, there is no Corydon Township in Warren County anymore since the installation of the Kinzua Dam flooded the area.

Though the village is a distant memory, the name lives on given the use of the land, which makes up part of the Allegheny National Forest.

According to recreation.gov, the Dewdrop Recreation Area “sits on the Kinzua Arm of the Allegheny Reservoir in northwest Pennsylvania, offering a popular getaway for boaters and families.

“This large campground offers 74 reservable family campsites that include a picnic table, fire ring and tent pad. Flush toilets, drinking water and a dump station are provided. Amenities such as firewood, ice, interpretive services and 24-hour campground attendants are offered at the site.”

Allegheny Site Management, which manages the recreation area for the ANF, notes that the campground opens the week of Memorial Day and closes after Labor Day.

The area is located on the Longhouse National Scenic Byway, a few miles south of the intersection with Rt. 59.

Starting at $3.50/week.
