BEMUS POINT, NY – The Eisenhower cross country teams traveled to the Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday, with the boys coming in 19th place and the girls 20th.

Tyler Burnell and Ethan Kellogg led the boys team, finishing 50th (18:16) and 52nd (18:21) respectively, while Lily Fedorchuk paced the girls, finishing 107th in 24:34.

“The Red Dragon Invitational this year was a good meet,” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach. “There were over 1500 runners from more than 50 schools. In the past it was held at Long Point State Park. On Saturday, the meet was run on the Bemus Point Golf Course, which is where the New York Section 6 race will be held later in the season. This brought a lot of schools from the Buffalo area to the invitational.”

Buffalo area schools swept the top three spots in the boys team race, with Clarence taking first (91), followed by Orchard Park (106) and Williamsville North (122).

West Seneca West (70) won the girls meet, followed by Clarence (79) and Maple Grove (109).

“Our kids liked running on this course,” Beach said. “Mile one was mostly flat, mile two led up and down a substantial hill, with the final stretch of the race winding through different golf holes. We had some strong performances and are looking forward to our first region race with Fort LeBoeuf and Corry on Tuesday.”
