Second annual Front Porch Day arrives in Warren County
The second annual Front Porch Day has arrived — and added another day.
For the next two days, anyone in Warren County who sits on their front porch or walks around their neighborhoods talking to people sitting on their front porches can say they were part of it.
“We’ve come to that magic moment where it takes on a life of its own,” Warren County Front Porch Days Co-Founder Gary Lester said. “People here and there are simply encouraged to sit on their porches, walking around the block, and connecting with neighbors.”
“We’re hearing about folks who are having music, cooking hot dogs, having a lemonade stand, meeting in lawns and driveways,” Lester said. “It would be accurate that we are trying to recreate the definition of ‘neighborhood.’ Used to be neighbors became friends and there is tremendous value to positive relationships.”
For those looking to take their participation in the festival to another level, there is a free, open-to-the-public concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, at First Lutheran Church in Warren, featuring Bare Bones, “the group that sparked the idea 25-plus years ago,” Lester said. “There will be (optional) sing-along opportunities.”
