Council sets hearing on liquor license for eatery
Warren City Council will hold a hearing Monday to gather public comment on a proposed transfer of a liquor license that would allow a new restaurant, Taco Y Tekila Warren LLC, to operate at 115 Ludlow St. in downtown Warren.
The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Warren Municipal Building at 318 W. Third Ave. The application seeks approval from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to transfer Liquor License No. R-16711 from Spring Creek Township into the City of Warren.
According to a notice from Chief Clerk Michael Holtz, the Pennsylvania Liquor Code permits municipalities to exceed their liquor license quota when a license is transferred from another municipality within the same county. Taco Y Tekila Warren LLC has requested a resolution of support from the city as part of the transfer process.
The liquor license transfer is one of several items on the agenda for the June 15 city council meeting, which will follow the public hearing.
Council members will also consider a request from the owner of a vacant lot at 37 Glade Ave. to remove a sidewalk located along the front of the property. City documents indicate the sidewalk currently ends at the property’s northeast boundary and does not connect to any other pedestrian pathway.
In addition, council will review a proposed ordinance establishing a “Killed in Service” benefit for the city’s police pension plan. As a third-class city, Warren is required to administer its pension plans in accordance with provisions outlined in Pennsylvania’s Third Class City Code, which includes such a benefit for police officers.
Council is also expected to make an appointment to fill a vacant seat on the Parks, Recreation and Landscape Commission. The term expires Dec. 31, 2028.
Other agenda items include a presentation by Victoria Boehmer of the Tybout House, updates from the Comprehensive Plan Task Force, Council of Governments, Riverfront Development and Warren Worx, as well as departmental reports from police, public works, fire and code enforcement officials.
The regular council meeting will begin immediately following the public hearing. Residents are invited to attend and provide comments on the liquor license transfer application.
